For the entirety of my music career, over 25+ years now, I’ve chosen to be a truly independent artist. I write the songs and I write the checks. From the first word of a song in pencil on graph paper to the decay of the last note in the final mix, I have creative control, and importantly, I also retain ownership of my music. There’s no record label, no “image consultants”, no old-school manager types or industry “influencers” or accounting departments dictating what I sing, how I sound, how I look, or how I can perform or license my music.
This freedom has allowed me to evolve as an artist, to write and play from decades of experience as a professional musician wandering across genres and music scenes and various interstates and border crossings. It’s allowed me the time to be a deeper, more developed, and hopefully, more interesting musician.
It’s allowed me to stand behind how every note sounds and feels.
Demo versions of two of my songs on this album have already won awards - including a debut performance of the title track at the legendary Bluebird Cafe! The album also features some incredible special guests, and spans a range of sounds and emotions from acoustic Appalachian ballads to off-the-beaten-path sonic experiments. If you want to know what a pedal steel guitar, a medieval hurdy gurdy, and a fiddle through a full Marshall stack sound like together… this album’s your chance to be the first to find out!
But the process of making an album doesn’t end once the mics are turned off! With the album now in the final stages of recording, your support helps me get this music out to as many listeners as possible.
