Greg Anderson Bio
A multi-instrumentalist and producer from the musical melting pot of New York City, Greg Anderson has performed and recorded with a wide variety of artists in an even wider variety of musical genres.
Well known for his work in many folk and world music scenes, he was the long-time guitarist with Eileen Ivers & Immigrant Soul. He spent nine years touring with celebrated Irish vocalist Cathie Ryan, has worked with myriad other singers including Richard Shindell, Dar Williams, Tommy Sands, Susan McKeown, Jeff Wilkinson, and Dave Moore, and has also accompanied many instrumental stalwarts in various genres, ranging from Steeleye Span fiddler Peter Knight and Irish accordion great James Keane to former Shakti violinist L. Shankar, among countless others.
Having spent years in the ‘downtown’ NY music scenes, he also worked with a number of artists in rock, jazz, and contemporary music. He was bassist for 15 years with the avant-rock band Doctor Nerve (with whom he recorded 8 albums and toured throughout the world), played a variety of instruments with Grammy winning klezmer-jazz group The Klezmatics (accompanying them on tours with Itzhak Perlman), and played with other artists as varied as US Poet Laureate Billy Collins and classical percussionist Evelyn Glennie. In the 1980s, he played bass and keyboards in the seminal post-punk new wave band ibm, and in the 1990s co-founded the acclaimed NYC celtic-world fusion group Whirligig.
Also a much sought after producer and arranger, he is a recognized for the blending of traditional and world musics with contemporary sounds and production values, and has produced albums for many of these same artists, along with dozens of others.
In addition, he has tour managed for artists including Cry, Cry, Cry, and Richard Shindell, and has decades of experience in live sound.
